Casual breakfast with the girls turned into an impromptu engagement celebration, with all the drama that seems to go with anything related to a wedding. We were of course flattered that our friends were keen to celebrate with us, but at this time of the year it's pretty difficult to find time to get everyone together. So, breakfast with a few girls was hijacked into breakfast for about a dozen well wishers.
Poor Megsy had received panicked phone calls from everyone.."what time is it?"; "will it matter if I'm late?"; "I need to train first"; "I have to leave early..."
Normally none of these situations would be problems. Phil and I are potentially the most casual entertainers in the world. My answers would have been "Get there whenever you can"; "Wear your lycra if you want, in fact ride to the cafe if that suits you better"; "Stay for as long as you can".
Luckily, Megs was on the same wavelength, and was equally as puzzled at everyone's elevated sense of importance. Even though Phil and I were now engaged, it was still just breakfast with friends. It turned out to be a really lovely morning with our friends, and one of the times we will always look back on in our time as an engaged couple. Despite the drama, it was truly lovely that our friends had made such an effort to share this moment with us.
Phil and Lyndell are officially "hitched", having exchanged marriage vows at Vlasoff Cay (or Middle Cay) at approximately 10am on Monday 19 January, 2009.
We ran away to get married to keep it simple. In many ways, the decision to elope was one of the easiest, however it brought with it complications we never imagined. More than anything, we hated concealing our plans from you, our friends and family. So, we kept this blog not only as part of our big "reveal" but also so that those of you who are interested could recount our experiences in planning our special day, if you choose.
