Phil and Lyndell are officially "hitched", having exchanged marriage vows at Vlasoff Cay (or Middle Cay) at approximately 10am on Monday 19 January, 2009.

We ran away to get married to keep it simple. In many ways, the decision to elope was one of the easiest, however it brought with it complications we never imagined. More than anything, we hated concealing our plans from you, our friends and family. So, we kept this blog not only as part of our big "reveal" but also so that those of you who are interested could recount our experiences in planning our special day, if you choose.

Popping the question

Most of you have heard the full story of how Phil popped the question...Phil took me away for a few days to our favourite little getaway at Montville. We curled up on the couch to watch what ended up being one of the most engaging love stories I've ever watched, The Notebook.

For those of you who have seen the movie, you'll know that there was no need for anything more. We had both commented throughout the movie that we hoped we were like the couple in the movie when we were old too (apart from the dementia). So following the final credits, Phil just asked. "Lyndell, will you marry me?"

I said yes, and he presented me with a beautiful diamond solitaire. I was so impressed with this gesture. How does a man buy jewellery for a women that doesn't normally wear any? A sign of Phil's bravery, and, in some old-fashioned, caveman kind of way, his suitability as a future husband.
