Phil and Lyndell are officially "hitched", having exchanged marriage vows at Vlasoff Cay (or Middle Cay) at approximately 10am on Monday 19 January, 2009.

We ran away to get married to keep it simple. In many ways, the decision to elope was one of the easiest, however it brought with it complications we never imagined. More than anything, we hated concealing our plans from you, our friends and family. So, we kept this blog not only as part of our big "reveal" but also so that those of you who are interested could recount our experiences in planning our special day, if you choose.

It's not lying is it?

Once we started telling everyone our news, the questions started... "So, when's the big day?".

Almost immediately after the proposal, we'd started talking about how and when we would make it official. I'd always wanted to elope and Phil didn't want an elaborate event. We talked about many possibilities. A "small" wedding with just close friends... but where do you draw the line? A surprise wedding, where you invite everyone to an engagement party and just do it all then and there... but what if the people you really want to be there don't show up? Maybe eloping was the best solution...

Either way, we had to be prepared. We formulated a strategy for dealing with the big question - be as evasive as possible. Start spreading different stories so people get confused. Tell them that silly season is approaching and there's not much we can do at the moment. Neither Phil or I are very good at fibbing (we decided it wasn't actually lying) so we knew it was going to be VERY hard to keep this up for however long it was going to take us to get organised.
