Phil and Lyndell are officially "hitched", having exchanged marriage vows at Vlasoff Cay (or Middle Cay) at approximately 10am on Monday 19 January, 2009.

We ran away to get married to keep it simple. In many ways, the decision to elope was one of the easiest, however it brought with it complications we never imagined. More than anything, we hated concealing our plans from you, our friends and family. So, we kept this blog not only as part of our big "reveal" but also so that those of you who are interested could recount our experiences in planning our special day, if you choose.

Our day

We rose early to pouring rain! Not ideal for a romantic elopement on a deserted sand Cay! Luckily, by the time we got dressed, to the helicopter, and flew to the Cay the rain had disappeared. We were able to enjoy the ceremony just as we'd imagined.

We exchanged our vows and rings amongst the most wonderful people. Tracey, our photographer, who flies ultra light aircraft herself, was like a kid in a candy store! Pilot Pete experienced his first wedding on the job. He revealed at some stage they'd called him in on his day off. We were really pleased to have been assigned Pete, as his friendly nature was just what Phil wanted in his "best man".
Last but not least, our celebrant Kay, who put together the perfect ceremony for us. She was terrified of flying in a helicopter, and was not originally going to accept the booking at all. She ended up enjoying the flight as well as the experience with us.
We could not have hoped for better morning to start our life as husband and wife.

Dear Phil & Lyndell, congratulations. What a lovely way to get married. We understand the difficulties of eloping as we considered it seriously, and chose to have family by our sides. I'm sure Michael will have more to say when he gets to see your blog, I've called him and he's on his way home!
Have a lovely time, and again, CONGRATULATIONS. You are most definitely excused for not making it on Sunday!!!!

Love the Kleidons

Dear Lyndell & Phil, what a gorgeous story, day & setting. Of course I loved it...Cairns is our home. We are so excited for you. We eloped (sort of) to Bali for our wedding in Sep, then legalised our vows in Cairns on 21 Dec. Oh the excitement. You go girl. Happy happy years and memories ahead for you. Dear Lyndell and Phil
Congratulations on your brilliantly romantic wedding. I am so happy for you and loved your blog especially the photos and when you realised you were at the same hotel as the Bridal expo. Classic. Like to script to an Aussie film. I can't stop smiling thinking about how exciting it must have been :)
